Cranberry Chutney and Cranberry Athanu (Cranberry Pickle)

Need some Thanksgiving inspo?! Make these super easy condiments for your meals for the remainder of the fall season (which is technically Dec. 21, don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.) Cranberry jams and chutneys reminds me of the flavors I loved in candy as a kid. I grew up on spicy tamarind candy which is very popular in Mexico. Similarly, cranberry mimics that tangy, spicy, and sweet flavor! Both of these recipes are things i grew up with and I wish I could keep them going year-round. Unfortunately these are only for the fall, but I hope you make every day of the season last!

    Garlic Knots

These semi-homemade garlic knots are a breeze to make on any night of the week. They are great pop-able sides to any meal, and they’re sure to make kids and adults happy. I like to serve garlic knots hot out of the oven with a sprinkle of cheese over the top! It is definitely worth it to add in a couple of extra minutes on the oven to get that wonderfully crispy top. Also, you can bake these in a cast iron pan with some extra garlic butter on the bottom and then mix in your favorite sauce to make a garlicky dipping sauce! The possibilities are endless!

    Idna

When people think of Gujju food they often think about Dhokla, my understanding is that dhokla and idna are very closely related. My sister loves a plate of dhokla for lunch life gets too busy, it’s oddly comforting for her. These can be made a bunch of different ways, but this recipe is my favorite. I love it with whole chana dal for an added crunch. My family always makes their own rice flour and dal flours which has been a blessing for us all these years, but when I moved away I needed a dose of that comfort food. The dhokla flour from Swad is a great alternative if…

    Mint Chutney

This is my go to chutney when making any chaat related food! It is such a nice compliment to samosas, papad, or even pizza! There is always a fresh batch in my fridge, and my aunt has started requesting a batch for her house too! If you’re low on time you can definitely make this in advance or whip this up in a huge batch and freeze it. If you omit the chili it is extremely kid-friendly! I would take chutney and butter/cream cheese sandwiches to school all the time and it is still on of my favorite snacks, especially with Jalapeño chips smashed in the middle! Ingredients: 2 cups…

    Red Chili Garlic Chutney

This chutney is the ultimate condiment to have in your fridge. It is super spicy and provides a great zing to chaat foods but it also is great in other applications. I mix a little with cream cheese on a bagel or as a spread in a cheese quesadilla for a quick lunch. It also taste great blended with a little mayo and Giardiniera mix for the best sandwich spread you’ve ever had in life. Mix it with yogurt for a spicy marinade, or drop a spoonful in ranch dressing to go with a slice of pizza! No matter how you want to use it, it tastes great. My only…

    Raita

During these summer days our family has been going through yogurt like nobody’s business. We have been making chhas, srikhand, and all sorts of other cool treats. This is typically a side dish for dal that or other main entrées. This raita is made Bhakta-style with a little bit of chili paste, this isn’t something that is typical in a lot of Gujarati homes. Also Bhakta style raita is typically much thicker than the version that you typically see in restaurants. When my cousins were toddlers they used to just eat this raita with plain rice! Ingredients: 1 c. of plain yogurt 1 c. sour cream 1 English cucumber, shredded…
